"Extraordinary Images of the Photographic Arts"

James Scheihing: About the Artist

Jim has been involved in photography for many years. His first exposure to photography occurred when his grandfather gave him a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye for his birthday. He quickly made a pest of himself capturing images at family gatherings. His first serious work in photography came while working his way through college as a member of the San Francisco Fire Department. During this time his photographic skills were recognized. He was soon placed in charge of the Photo Unit that covered every aspect of Fire Department activity.

After completing graduate school he worked as a geologist. During this time he continued to improve his technique in both macro and landscape photography. His recent work often looks for the image within the image, searching for abstractions within nature.

Jim works with a 35mm camera and an old favorite, his medium-format, twin-lens reflex Mamiya. His images are not altered in any way with any of the graphic programs (e.g. Photoshop) widely used today. Jim uses only the finest archival materials in both his prints and mats. His work has been exhibited at the Jewitt and Atrium Galleries in San Francisco and hangs in numerous private collections.
