"Extraordinary Images of the Photographic Arts"

Bill Carlson: About the Artist

My primary photography subject is landscapes including naturally-occurring abstract patterns. Occasionally, I incorporate into a photograph structures such as barns and fences that are harmonious with the scene. I search for the elements of simplicity, spaciousness, and orderliness to create moods of stillness and sensitivity. High contrast printing techniques are employed for many of my black and white film winter subjects, while emphasizing muted tones in my color photographs. The interplay of light and shadow is a foremost consideration of both my black and white and color photography. Many of my winter scenes are the result of snowshoe treks through mountain meadows and northern woods. I photograph in both medium (6x7cm.) and 35rnrn. formats.

A geologist (retired) by profession, I have studied photography at the Famous Photographers School in Westport, Connecticut, and at various photography work-shops conducted by America's leading photographers. I have had numerous individual and group juried exhibitions in the Denver area as well as at other U.S. and Canada locations. My color photograph, "Dock", received a first place award out of 4,600 international entries in a competition sponsored by The Hartford Insurance Company.

I have recently published a book of my black and white photography and poetry entitled, "A Walk Through Mountain, Meadow, Marsh, and Woodland".
